2. Gothic Cathedral Arch Bookshelf with Stained Glass Backing
Introduction and What This Idea Means
Drawing inspiration from medieval European architecture, this design incorporates pointed lancet arches and luminous stained glass panels behind the bookshelves. It turns an ordinary bookcase into a sacred, cathedral-like display cabinet.
How to Make It
Build or modify an existing wooden bookcase by adding custom arched wooden inserts cut into pointed gothic arches at the top of each shelf tier. Secure waterproof stained glass panels or decorative window film directly against the back interior panel of the bookcase so ambient room light filters through the colored glass.
Tips
Place warm LED puck lights at the top of each shelf compartment to illuminate the stained glass backing from within during evening hours.
Variations and Essentials
- Variations: Use amber and emerald stained glass patterns for a warm, traditional medieval church aesthetic.
- Essentials: Wooden bookcase framing, custom arched trim pieces, stained glass panels or adhesive film, LED puck lights.
