3. Brass Inlay Geometric Wooden Table

3

Breathe new life into a plain wooden coffee table or credenza by embedding sleek, metallic geometric linework directly into the grain. The contrast of natural hardwood—such as walnut or mahogany—with cold, polished metal reflects the Streamline Moderne sub-genre of the Deco era. Mark out sharp, interlocking diamond or chevron patterns onto the tabletop using a pencil and steel ruler. Using a mini rotary tool equipped with a narrow routing bit, carefully carve shallow channels along your drawn guidelines. Cut solid brass flat wire strips to size, coat them in high-strength epoxy, and press them firmly into the routed grooves. Once cured, sand the entire surface completely flat using progressively finer sandpaper grits, then finish with a clear, satiny hard-wax oil. The result is a seamless, touchably smooth surface where bright brass threads shimmer through dark, rich timber.
