17. Decorative Toile Fabric Wall Hanging

17
Create a large-scale focal point for a bedroom, hallway, or living room space by turning a spectacular piece of toile fabric into a bohemian-inspired fabric wall tapestry. Toile patterns are essentially grand visual stories printed on cloth—featuring grand archways, cascading flora, and charming figures—making them naturally suited for display as textile art without the restriction of glass or heavy frames.

Select a generous cut of high-quality toile fabric that features an expansive, non-repeating or large-scale scenic motif. Hem all four edges cleanly to prevent fraying. Create a simple rod pocket along the top hem by folding the fabric over and sewing a straight seam across. Insert a wooden dowel rod, brass curtain rod, or vintage copper pipe through the pocket. Attach wooden finials or decorative caps to the ends of the rod, and tie a cord or leather strap across the top for hanging. Add weighted curtain weights or a second dowel to the bottom hem so the fabric hangs straight and crisp against the wall.
